Our History

We opened our doors in 1946. Our history proves our dedication to achieve the highest quality service that has earned us the reputation we enjoy today. Lyk-Nu Paint & Body Shop was founded by J.D. Phelps, Sr. in 1946. He saw a need in Nashville, Tennessee, to provide the highest quality body repair possible.

In 1948, Mr. Phelps built the existing 4th Ave South building to expand his growing operation. Several additions were constructed to achieve the present 12,000 square foot autobody repair facility we have today.

As the business grew, he employed his two sons, J.D. and Jack Phelps. They eventually took over the business after their father passed away. J.D. worked at the family business for over 44 years.

On April 7, 1995, J.D. and Jack retired and sold the business to Paul Slate, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and the name evolved to Lyk-Nu Collision Center, Inc. The Phelps Brothers were very concerned that Lyk-Nu remain a family owned business as their father had established. J.D. and Jack Phelps worked with Paul, his wife Teresa, and their two sons, Daniel and David, for four months to ensure the legacy lived on. Even today, the Phelps family still stops by from time to time to visit or have their own autos repaired. We feel very fortunate to have this legacy, and we work hard to maintain it.

In 2009, Lyknu purchased two additional shops in Donelson and Lebanon, Tennessee, then a Hendersonville location in early 2010. Lyknu hopes to keep growing and become America's choice. Thanks to every customer that made this possible.
